The East Carolina Pirates Receive Another Big News After NCAA Massive Announcement
The East Carolina baseball team, crowned the American Athletic Conference champion, is set to make its 35th appearance in the NCAA Regional after being assigned to the Conway Regional at Spring Brooks Stadium, hosted by No. 13 seed Coastal Carolina.

The Pirates are scheduled to face regional No. 2 seed Florida (38-20) in a first-round matchup at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 30. Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina will compete against No. 4 seed Fairfield at 6 p.m. ECU’s game against the Gators will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
East Carolina has previously played all three teams in its regional bracket, having a 7-10 record against Coastal Carolina, an 0-4 record against Florida, and a strong 27-5 record against Fairfield. In the 2022 Greenville Regional, where ECU was the national No. 8 seed, the Pirates defeated Coastal Carolina 13-4 to advance to the Super Regional.
The Pirates have qualified for regional play in 21 of the last 26 seasons (with no tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and have made it nine times under head coach Cliff Godwin in his 11 years. Their regional travels include stops at the Coral Gables (Fla.) Regional in 2015, Charlottesville (Va.) Regional in 2016 and 2023, Conway (S.C.) Regional in 2025, as well as hosting in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2024.
The Conway Regional is paired with the Auburn Regional, hosted by No. 4 overall seed Auburn, which features No. 2 seed NC State, No. 3 seed Stetson, and No. 4 seed Central Connecticut State.
After claiming their fourth AAC Tournament title with an 8-2 win over Tulane at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, the Pirates head into regional play with a 33-25 overall record. Freshman outfielder Braden Burgess was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, alongside teammates Walker Barron, Jack Herring, Austin Irby, Sean Jenkins, Ryley Johnson, Colby Wallace, and Dixon Williams, who were selected for the All-Tournament Team.
Among the 64 teams selected, the Pirates have a 2-9 overall record in 2025 against five opponents: Coastal Carolina (1-2), Duke (0-1), North Carolina (0-3), NC State (0-1), and UTSA (1-2).
Each of the 16 regionals will utilize a double-elimination format consisting of four teams, running from Friday, May 30, to Monday, June 2 (if necessary). The announcement of the eight Super Regional hosts will be made on www.NCAA.com/mcws on Tuesday, June 3, by 10 a.m. (ET). The Men’s College World Series is set to begin on Friday, June 13, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
