The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a minor league contract with veteran utility player Brandon Drury, who will also receive an invitation to spring training. Drury joins the team after two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. Additionally, the White Sox signed utilityman Tristan Gray to a minor league deal on Friday.

Former Angels slugger Brandon Drury has signed a minor league contract with the White Sox. Drafted by the Braves in 2010, Drury made his debut with the Diamondbacks and spent his first three seasons in Arizona. Now 32 years old, he has played for seven teams throughout his ten-year career, enjoying several successful seasons. His standout year was in 2022 when he emerged as the top offensive player for the Cincinnati Reds in the first half, posting a .274/.335/.520 line with 20 home runs and 59 RBIs over 92 games before being traded to the San Diego Padres. He wrapped up the season with a .263/.320/.492 average and 28 homers, earning his first Silver Slugger Award.
Following that impressive performance, Drury secured a two-year, $ 17 million contract with the Angels that December. In his first season in Los Angeles, he played 125 games, hitting .262/.306/.497 with 26 home runs. However, his success did not carry over into 2024, as he struggled with injuries and recorded a career-low .169/.242/.228 in 97 games.
As he enters his age-33 season, Drury holds a career slash line of .245/.296/.421 with 109 home runs and a .717 OPS. When healthy, his offensive contributions have been invaluable, consistently ranking among the top major league hitters in home run and hard-hit percentages. His defensive versatility is also a key asset, as he transitioned from outfield to primarily playing second and third base.
Drury has established himself as a reliable player capable of contributing in multiple facets, both on the field and in the clubhouse. His power will enhance the Chicago lineup, while his defensive adaptability allows him to fill various roles. If he makes the opening day roster, he is expected to share time at third base in a right-handed platoon with Josh Rojas. Drury aims to rebound from a challenging 2024 season, and if he remains healthy, he could be a strong contender for Comeback Player of the Year.
