UConn women’s basketball jumps to No. 6 in AP Top 25 Poll, Sarah Strong earns Big East honor
UConn women’s basketball survived last week without Paige Bueckers.
While the Huskies succeeded on the court with two Big East wins, Bueckers sat out the week due to a left knee sprain. Bueckers is expected back this week as the Huskies continue conference play with games at St. John’s and hosting Seton Hall.
“We’re hoping we’ll have her back this week,” Auriemma said of his team’s leading scorer at 19.9 points per game this season.
UConn will begin the week with its best player back and a new national ranking.
The Huskies (15-2) jumped up one spot in Monday’s Week 11 of the AP Top 25 Poll to No. 6 following then-No. 5 Texas’ loss to No. 2 South Carolina.
UCLA (16-0) remains atop the poll followed by the Gamecocks (16-1) at No. 2, Notre Dame (14-2) at No. 3 and USC (16-1) at No. 4. The Longhorns dropped two spots to No. 7 because of their 67-50 loss on Sunday to South Carolina. That move brought LSU (18-0) one spot up to No. 5 and UConn up to No. 6.
