Texas Tech Tennis Team Faces New Challenges in Midland

The Texas Tech men’s tennis team kicks off its fall season at the Racquet Club UTR Collegiate Invitational from September 6-8, with four players heading to Midland, Texas, for the tournament.

The Red Raiders—Niksa Arsic, Brody Nejedly-Krall, Lorenzo Esquici, and Tyler Stewart—are set to compete this weekend in their first tournament of the season. Coming off a 2024 season that saw them secure nine victories, the team is welcoming back six players from last year.

Stewart will make his season debut this Friday, returning to his hometown after missing last spring due to injury. Before his setback, he had achieved ranked victories in both singles and doubles.

Newcomer Nejedly-Krall, a five-star recruit from Rancho Mirage, California, will also make his collegiate debut. Last year, he recorded 30 singles wins, including 16 against other five-star players and seven against four-star competitors. He was ranked No. 11 in California and No. 55 nationally.

At the Racquet Club UTR Collegiate Invitational, the Red Raiders will be up against some of the best collegiate talent in the country, including six nationally-ranked players, and local schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State will also be competing.

In singles, Arsic and Stewart will begin their matches tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. against Benedikt Emesz from Arkansas and Brock Anderson from LSU, respectively. Esquici will follow at 10 a.m. facing Oklahoma’s Asahi Harazaki, while Nejedly-Krall will take on No. 124-ranked Lucas Brown from Texas at 10:30 a.m.

For doubles, Arsic and Nejedly-Krall will compete in the first round against Texas’ Brown and Evan Burnett at 5 p.m. on Friday. Notably, Brown is currently ranked No. 31 in the ITA doubles rankings alongside his partner Sebastian Gorzny. Simultaneously, Esquici and Stewart will face Boise State’s Idriss Haddouch and Adam Duda.
