Texas Tech head baseball coach Tim Tadlock announced new assistant coach.
“We are excited about bringing Eric back into a coaching role,” Tadlock stated. “It will be enjoyable to see him grow as our hitting coach and support our staff and team.”
Gutierrez led the Red Raiders to their first two College World Series appearances as a player and joined Tadlock’s staff in 2019 as a volunteer assistant, later becoming Director of Operations for the 2024 season.
Primarily working with the infielders and first basemen, Gutierrez contributed to the 2019 Red Raiders achieving a 46-20 record and securing their third Big 12 title in four seasons. They finished as one of the final four teams in the 2019 CWS, earning a No. 4 final ranking.
In 2019, Gutierrez mentored Cameron Warren, a senior first baseman, who earned All-America honors. Warren led the team in batting (.355), home runs (18), RBI (79), and slugging (.665), while maintaining a .997 fielding percentage with only two errors. Warren was selected in the 22nd round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Throughout his four years at Texas Tech, Gutierrez was one of the top hitters in the program’s history, boasting a .302 batting average with 264 hits, 59 doubles, five triples, and 36 home runs, finishing with a .302/.423/.505 line. He recorded 193 RBI and 173 runs scored, while getting on base 195 times via walks and hit-by-pitches.
Gutierrez earned his degree in general studies from Texas Tech in 2018.
