Texas Tech gets massive injury update on 4-star QB ahead of Iowa State game

Texas Tech football missed a major opportunity when they blew a 17-point lead in the second half, resulting in a narrow one-point loss to TCU. A key factor in the loss was the injury to quarterback Behren Morton, who couldn’t play the second half after injuring his left shoulder.

Fortunately for Texas Tech, Morton’s injury isn’t expected to be serious, and he is likely to play against No. 10 Iowa State on Saturday, as reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN. Thamel shared that “Morton looked strong in practice on Tuesday and is expected to start on Saturday at No. 10 Iowa State. He did not play in the second half last week against TCU due to the left shoulder injury.”

Morton was substituted by true freshman Will Hammond, who played well overall with 10-of-15 completions for 121 yards and a touchdown. However, Hammond’s late-game fumble proved costly for the Red Raiders, who were in field-goal range and had a chance to secure the win when TCU recovered the ball, effectively ending the game.

This loss to TCU was a significant missed chance for Texas Tech to remain competitive in the Big 12 title race. Entering the game with only one conference loss, they were tied with several teams, trailing only undefeated BYU and Iowa State.qq
