The Texas Tech football program continues its strong recruiting efforts by securing the commitment of high school offensive lineman Elias Gillen for the 2025 class from South Dakota.
Predicting the development of high school offensive linemen in college football is a challenging task due to the uncertainties around how their size will adjust with added weight while maintaining agility. Recognizing this, Texas Tech has prioritized bolstering its offensive line with three verbal commitments from high school offensive linemen in the recent week as part of the 2025 recruiting class.
Elias Gillen, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect from Rapid City, South Dakota, recently announced his decision to join the Red Raiders via social media. Gillen, rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com, is ranked as the second-best player in South Dakota and the 111th interior offensive lineman in his class.
Apart from Texas Tech, Gillen has received offers from Akron, Eastern Michigan, South Dakota State, and North Dakota. Following his official visit to Lubbock last weekend, he has committed to becoming a Red Raider.
Gillen’s commitment marks the 16th for Texas Tech in the 2025 class, contributing to the Red Raiders’ current national ranking of 30th in recruiting.
Sustaining a strong offensive line is crucial for Joey McGuire and his program, especially with the potential turnover in the 2024 offensive line lineup. Red Raiders’ emphasis on recruiting high school talent and supplementing with transfers under McGuire’s leadership is evident, with the addition of 17 O-linemen in the last three recruiting classes.
The focus on strengthening the offensive line is indicative of the program’s aspirations to elevate its performance. Improving offensive line play is essential for Texas Tech’s progression to an elite level, and success with these young offensive line prospects could significantly impact the program’s future under McGuire’s guidance.
