Wake Forest became a Lone Star state a few years ago, but Seth Carethers decided to sign the Deacs after getting an offer a few weeks ago based on his performance at a Wake camp.

Carethers had received offers from numerous universities, including Army, Hawaii, Princeton, Rice, North Dakota State, and Cornell. Last year, the six-foot cornerback for Coppell High School played on both sides of the ball. He runs on their track team as well, setting a personal record of 23.10 in the 200-meter dash this spring.
Carethers joins high three-star offensive lineman Jaishaun Offutt as the second athlete in as many weeks to pledge to the Deacs during a campout. Carethers is the 16th commit in this class and the second corner since Wake was able to get Braxton Winston’s commitment earlier in the cycle.

Wake Forest is in the third week of fall camp, the season when wills are broken and lads grow into men. It’s easy to observe some sloppy play on a rainy and gloomy Tuesday morning since fall camp is a long haul. The energy on both sides of the ball and the low number of drops and turnovers were pleasing to observe. Refocusing your team is the last thing you should do. Since it was my first practice in almost a week, it served as a reset for me. It was strange since I felt like I had to adjust, but after a while it felt better since I could approach it without having a lot of the previous practices fresh in my memory.
On this particular day, both quarterbacks demonstrated what keeps them competitive for the starting position and the reasons they haven’t distanced themselves from one another. Today was Michael Kern’s day with the 1s. We had several fast hits to Taylor Morin and Horatio Fields in the skeletal work. He hit Morin twice deep during full-team drills later in practice, then lofted one up to Micah Mays, who made a fantastic leaping grab. There were a few plays in which he just ran, one of which was in a drill where the offense had less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the goal was to run down the time.
