The Texas Rangers and catcher Jonah Heim have sidestepped salary arbitration by finalizing a one-year deal, as reported by MLB.com’s John Feinsand.
Jonah Heim MLB All-Star
In 2025, Heim is set to earn $4.575 million, slightly below the projected $4.8 million he might have received through arbitration, according to MLB Trade Rumors. With four years of service under his belt, the 29-year-old catcher faced a challenging 2024 season, posting a batting line of .220/.267/.336 for a total of 13 home runs and 59 RBIs across 131 games, with limited action as a designated hitter.
This dip in performance followed a standout 2023, where Heim dazzled with a .258/.317/.438 slash line, belting 18 homers and driving in 95 runs, all while playing through a wrist injury. That year marked a major milestone for Heim, as he earned his first All-Star selection, snagged his first Gold Glove, and became a Silver Slugger finalist—all while being a pivotal force in the Rangers’ World Series journey.
Jonah Heim Becoming One of the Best Catchers in Baseball
Heim has dedicated four seasons to the Rangers since being acquired in a trade post-2020. Looking ahead, the team envisions Heim sharing duties behind the plate next season, prompting the signing of free agent Kyle Higashioka. At 34, Higashioka comes off a season with the San Diego Padres, where he recorded career highs with 17 home runs and 45 RBIs, boasting a slash line of .220/.263/.476.
Before his stint with the Padres, he showcased his skills over seven seasons with the Yankees, amassing 40 home runs and 121 RBIs while hitting .210/.253/.394.
