Texas QB Quinn Ewers Predicted to Replace Ex-$242 Million Star on Historic NFL Team.
Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers faces a challenging decision about whether to declare for the NFL draft or enter the transfer portal. For now, Ewers is focused on attempting to help the Longhorns win a national championship. Ewers’ draft predictions feature a wide range of projections with some mocks pegging the Texas quarterback as a Day 3 pick. Others are more bullish on how the former five-star recruit translates to the NFL.
One option that is unlikely on the table is Ewers returning to Texas where Arch Manning has already waited two seasons for his opportunity to be the team’s starting quarterback. Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante is one of the analysts in the bullish camp when it comes to Ewers. Infante projects Ewers will be a second-round pick in his latest NFL mock draft. The analyst has the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Ewers with the No. 59 overall pick.
Very interesting video from Todd McShay on Quinn Ewers

“Russell Wilson may have exceeded expectations for the Steelers so far this year, but they’ll inevitably need to find his long-term successor, and Justin Fields may prove too expensive for Pittsburgh to want to retain as a backup,” Infante wrote on Jan. 3.
“Selecting Quinn Ewers would give the Steelers a strong-armed passer with ample upside while still being able to use your first-round pick on other needs. The flashes have been there to project Ewers as an NFL starter, even if he might not be ready right away.”

The Steelers would be an ideal landing spot for Ewers. Both Wilson and Justin Fields will be free agents at the end of the NFL playoffs. Wilson’s days of the massive five-year, $242 million contract the star signed with the Denver Broncos are over.
Instead, Wilson signed a one-year, $1.2 million deal with Pittsburgh following his release by Denver during the 2024 offseason. Selecting Ewers in the second round would not guarantee the Longhorns star a starting gig, but it at least gives the signal-caller a pathway to winning the QB1 role sooner rather than later.
