Texas A&M football program receive unfortunate news

Texas A&M football program reaches unexpected first on National Signing Day

Wednesday was national signing day in college football, but you wouldn’t have known it to peruse the social feeds of Texas A&M football fans. The Aggie faithful were remarkably quiet on what has traditionally been one of the most exciting days of the year in college football.

That’s because Texas A&M football didn’t receive a single signature on this, the traditional signing period for high school athletes.

But that’s exactly how Mike Elko wants it.

Texas A&M football doesn’t sign a single recruit in late period after locking up entire class in December

It’s not as if this came about as a result of a subpar group, or completely missing out on all targets. Rather, this was a signing class that brought in plenty of talent, including some highly-sought-after names across the nation.

No, this was simply because there were no recruitments for Texas A&M football fans to be white-knuckling down the stretch. The Aggies had procured signatures from every single commitment in their class, and every other target they might have otherwise chased had signed as well.

Since the advent of the early signing period back in 2018, more and more recruits have been moving towards sending in an LOI in that earlier session. This has been tough on new coaches who have come in late in the game, following a November firing or some such— just as it was for Jimbo Fisher in that aforementioned 2018 cycle.

This is the first time the Aggies have never signed a recruit in the late period since it has existed, though that wasn’t even a possibility until recently. It shows just how quickly things have changed in the sport.

I doubt Mike Elko is complaining, though. Getting done early in the 2025 class has allowed him to make some much-needed staff moves, such as adding Lyle Hemphill, and turn his staff’s recruiting attention fully to the 2026 cycle, where the Aggies are already building an extremely impressive haul.

Here’s hoping that 2026 group behaves in a similar way— no drama, no intrigue, just signing on the dotted line early on. It’s made for one of the more stress-free signing periods that I can remember as an A&M fan— and I’m sure the coaching staff feels the same way.
