Tennessee Titans Receive Big News, Addressing the Titans’ Biggest Problem
After a 3-14 campaign in 2024, the Tennessee Titans’ owner Amy Adams Strunk decided to fire general manager Ran Carthon and replace him with longtime Kansas City Chiefs executive Mike Borgonzi.
In his first go-around as the main decision-maker for an organization, Borgonzi is tasked with rebuilding the franchise, but he has plenty of cap space and the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft at his disposal.
On Thursday, the team announced that they were planning to release edge rusher Harold Landry, who was a Pro Bowler in 2021 and one of the team’s longest-tenured players. That story dominated the news on Friday, but the team also announced that they were re-signing Keondre Coburn and Otis Reese IV.
Both Reese IV and Coburn were slated to be exclusive rights free agents this offseason, but the Titans elected to bring them both back on a one-year deal. Reese IV has spent both of his professional seasons in Tennessee, but Coburn has crossed paths with Borgonzi before as he was originally a member of the Chiefs.
Reese IV has played in 20 games for the Titans since 2023, including five starts, and has totaled 38 tackles, an interception and a pass defended. Coburn has played in 20 games for the Chiefs and Titans over the last two seasons, collecting 22 tackles including one for a loss.
Neither player is expected to move the needle much for the Tennessee defense this season, but keeping young players with potential is a practice that the best general managers follow in the NFL.
The Titans’ new regime is doing things a bit differently, which may be a good thing based on how successful the franchise has been in the last few years.
