Tech working to flip SDSU defensive line commit
Jenks (OK) defensive end Cash Jacobsen has long been a focus for Texas Tech. He attended a game last season and returned for Junior Day in January. Recently, he received an offer from the Red Raiders during his visit for the game against Arizona State in late September.
Jacobsen initially committed to South Dakota State over the summer, but now faces a significant decision as programs like Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are showing interest.
RedRaiderSports spoke with Jacobsen about his reaction to the Texas Tech offer and the current status of his recruitment. Note: This interview took place on Saturday, October 5th, after Jacobsen had visited Oklahoma State earlier that day, where he received an official offer on October 6th.
Key Points:
- Jacobsen chose South Dakota State over offers from universities including Air Force, Army, Cornell, and Yale.
- Texas Tech made an offer on September 22nd, followed by Oklahoma State’s offer on October 6th.
- He is also a lacrosse player.
How the Tech Offer Came Together: “I’ve been in contact with Tech for nearly a year now. I gained 60 pounds from March until now, going from 230 to around 285-290. They were impressed that I still move well despite the weight gain. When I was invited to the Arizona State game, I thought, why not? During my visit, I was having some food when the coaches started coming up to greet me. The defensive line coach came over and asked how I was doing, then said he was there to offer me a scholarship to Texas Tech and wanted me to play for him.”
On Conversations with DL Coach Zarnell Fitch: “He’s always so upbeat and genuine. He’s a personable guy with great energy and a strong passion for his work, truly caring about his players.”

Reasons for Commitment to South Dakota State: “Their success is incredible, with a record of 39-0 or 39-1, which really stood out to me. Additionally, the player-coach connection, the community, and the overall program are amazing. They definitely have something special going on.”
New Schools Entering the Mix: Since receiving the Texas Tech offer, Jacobsen has noticed various new schools following him on social media and showing interest. He mentioned, “Oh yeah. UNLV reached out, Michigan State followed, along with Boston College, Tulsa, and a little from OU and OSU.”
OSU Gameday Visit: “I was at OSU today (October 5th). It was really cool! I’d attended a few games there just to watch, not as a recruit. The experience was similar; I was eating upstairs and chatting with coaches. The game atmosphere was great, even though they got a tough loss. I’m getting good vibes that they might offer, but who knows?”
Return Visit to Texas Tech, Possible Official Visit: “They did mention it. We’re still working on scheduling, but it’s definitely in the plans.”
Final Decision Timeline: Jacobsen intends to take the next few weeks to assess all of his options before deciding whether to remain committed to SDSU or switch to one of his newer prospects. “I’m not sure yet. Probably by the end of October or mid-early November. I want to let the season unfold and see what other opportunities arise.”
