Tech drops another close contest to No. 17 BYU

The Red Raiders fall 3-0 to No. 17 BYU in Provo.

The Texas Tech volleyball team (8-6, 0-2) was defeated by No. 17 BYU (9-3, 2-0) with set scores of 16-25, 23-25, and 22-25 on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Fieldhouse. Aliyah McDonald led Tech with eight kills and three blocks, totaling 10.0 points.

Reagan Leinen, Simone Overbeck, Brynn Williams, and Mia Wesley each contributed five kills, while Emily Merrick added two to complete the key scorers for Tech.

Defensively, Overbeck topped the team with seven digs and recorded three aces. Setters Hanna Borer and Katelyn Cochran registered 10 and 16 assists, respectively.

Match Summary.

The first set was dominated by the Cougars, but the second and third sets were tightly contested. Texas Tech fought hard and made runs, but BYU consistently responded each time.

In the third set, Tech held a 14-10 lead as they aimed to prolong the match. However, BYU responded with an 8-2 run to take control and shift the momentum as the match approached its conclusion.
