Tar Heels Coach Hubert Davis Announces Significant News Following Talented guard Isaac McKneely
The 2025 offseason is set to be crucial for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they work to answer some important questions and get the program back on track. Like in previous years, this offseason will see significant activity in the transfer portal, leading to a revamped roster for the upcoming season.
With the transfer portal now open following the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, several players are seeking new opportunities. Among them, one player could be of particular interest to North Carolina.
Virginia guard Isaac McKneely made his entry into the transfer portal on Monday and could help address a major issue for the Tar Heels.
McKneely played for Virginia for the past three seasons and recently completed the 2024-25 season with an average of 14.7 points per game, boasting a 42% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Three-point shooting was a significant struggle for the Tar Heels last season, as the team collectively shot 35.6% from long range, placing them 80th nationally.

McKneely has recently entered the transfer portal with a ‘do not contact’ designation, indicating that communications will typically go through his agents. The 6-foot-4 guard had shown interest in North Carolina prior to committing to Virginia, although he never received an official offer from the Tar Heels.
Now, UNC has the opportunity to pursue him and potentially address a significant need, as McKneely could contribute valuable scoring to next season’s lineup.
