Lucas Erceg also made a significant contribution, earning his fourth save of the year.
The Cardinals initially took the lead in the second inning with Paul Goldschmidt’s two-run homer, his 18th of the season, which traveled an impressive 430 feet. However, St. Louis struggled to capitalize on scoring chances, finishing the game with just 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher Andre Pallante completed 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs—one earned—on three hits, while Ryan Fernandez took the loss in relief. Nolan Gorman added two hits for the Cardinals, but their efforts fell short.
Looking ahead, the Royals will enjoy an uncommon day off on Sunday before heading to Minneapolis for a three-game series against the Twins at Target Field.
