Steve Sarkisian & the Longhorns Drops Huge Announcement
On Saturday morning, Steve Sarkisian continued to add to his coach staff by hiring Justin Garrett. After one season as an assistant wide receivers coach for Boise State, Garrett will be the Longhorns RB assistant coach. He will be looking to help the Longhorns offense thrive in the SEC.
Before his stint with Boise State, Garrett spent one year on the UTEP coaching staff. Garrett served as the program’s scouting coordinator and NFL/Pro liaison at his alma matter. He brings plenty of coaching experience to Austin and was a productive player during his college career.
Garrett’s playing career began at Cerritos College, where he was a wide receiver while working a full-time job. He then transferred to UTEP, where he was a productive weapon. After redshirting in 2018, he led the team with 40 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns during the 2019 campaign. The California native finished his time at UTEP with 128 receptions and 1,641 receiving yards.
With Garrett on the staff last year, Boise State’s offense was hard to stop. The Broncos averaged 37.3 points and 466 yards per game. They were able to rely on one of the best running backs in the country, Ashton Jeanty. Garrett’s experience with Jeanty could prove to be beneficial to the Longhorns.

As Garrett prepares for a new chapter in his coaching career, he will work with a talented running back room in Texas. That is expected to include CJ Baxter, Quintrevion Wisner, and Jerrick Gibson. If Garrett can get the best out of that trio, the Longhorns offense will be in good hands.
After finishing two wins short of a national title, there is plenty for Longhorns fans to be excited about, and adding Garrett makes the coaching staff even better.
