The Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to retain starting offensive linemen Dan Moore Jr. or James Daniels, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Daniels and Moore, who are both unrestricted free agents, will likely hit the open market and head elsewhere.
“Some of those decisions have likely already been made. For example, they are not expected to re-sign two of their starting offensive linemen — left tackle Dan Moore Jr. and guard James Daniels — allowing them to enter the free agent market on March 12,” Dulac wrote.
None of that comes as a huge surprise. Daniels said before the season that the Steelers told him there would be no extension talks, and a torn Achilles after the season started will likely leave him on the open market for a bit of time before he heads to another team.
Moore has been the team’s starting left tackle for four seasons, but with investment in Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu, it is time for the young players to take over that role. He should still get a nice penny in free agency and find another team willing to make him a starter.
