After battling it out for promotion the entire season, Leeds United and Southampton met in the Championship play-off final this past weekend.

The Saints were declared the winners, consigning the Whites to yet another season of inferior football. Russell Martin and company triumphed 1-0 thanks to a goal from Adam Armstrong in the first half.

It is now being reported that Joe Rodon, one of Leeds United’s most notable players from the 2023–2024 campaign, is the target of the Premier League’s new recruits.

According to TEAMtalk, Southampton is considering a £15 million bid for the center defender as he is ready to rejoin his parent team, Tottenham Hotspur.

It is further stated that Rodon is still wanted by Leeds permanently. But that might be more difficult if they don’t improve and their impending financial problems arise. After a successful campaign, the Welshman is currently taking some time to recuperate and consider his future course of action.

Rodon rapidly established himself as a vital member of Daniel Farke’s Leeds United team as they attempted to qualify for the Premier League right away, whether it was with Pascal Struijk or Ethan Ampadu early in the season.

The former Swansea City player would only miss two more games after entering in time for the second Championship match of the season, one of which he watched from the bench due to suspension.

Beginning on October 4th and continuing until last Saturday’s play-off final, Rodon started every game. With his debut at Swansea, he made 50 appearances in all competitions and demonstrated why he was considered a Premier League grade player.

His success could position him for a Premier League spot the next season, yet it appears Leeds United is still hoping to get him.

Leeds United and Southampton will be having quite different transfer windows in the upcoming weeks and months, so the larger effects of the play-off final will undoubtedly become more apparent.

In order to pay off unpaid transfer fees, the Whites must sell players, but they also want to keep a club that is capable of contending for promotion in the future.

Martin will probably have plenty of support at St. Mary’s as he gets the Saints ready for the Premier League.

Only time will tell Rodon’s final destination. Though the Elland Road supporters would undoubtedly prefer a return to Leeds United, he might find it difficult to pass up another opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League.
