Update: South Carolina transfer EDGE Bangally Kamara is attracting attention from both the ACC and Big Ten

South Carolina EDGE Bangally Kamara entered the transfer portal earlier this week as a graduate transfer. The former Pitt player appeared in four games for the Gamecocks this season while maintaining his redshirt status. The fifth-year athlete has reached out to Cal, Michigan State, SMU, Syracuse, and Toledo since joining the portal on Tuesday. In those four appearances, the Akron (Ohio) native recorded 9 tackles and a tackle for loss with the South Carolina defense. This season, he has participated in a total of 70 snaps, including a season-high of 30 in his latest game against Ole Miss.

Kamara joined Columbia as a transfer this offseason after spending four seasons at Pittsburgh. During his time with the Panthers, the 6-foot-2, 229-pound player participated in 48 games, recording 120 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. A college football player can play in four games while maintaining their redshirt status. Kamara missed South Carolina’s game against Akron and did not redshirt during his time at Pitt, although he did utilize his COVID-19 year of eligibility. He is now exploring options for the 2025 season.

Bangally Kamara participated in just 70 snaps with South Carolina but received the highest defensive grade among all players on the Gamecocks’ roster, according to Pro Football Focus. Head coach Shane Beamer noted earlier this week that Kamara’s role as a pass rusher is increasing. “He played a season-high number of snaps at linebacker on Saturday and will continue to see more action going forward,” Beamer stated. “My priority is to do what’s best for the team, and I believe that means having ‘Gally keep playing to help us try to defeat Alabama this weekend.”
