South Carolina Gamecocks receive major boost with star running back cleared to play ahead of season opener
The South Carolina Gamecocks’ backfield just got a major boost, as the NCAA has officially cleared transfer running back Rahsul Faison to play this season—granting him a rare seventh year of eligibility and ending months of uncertainty surrounding his status.
Faison, who transferred from Utah State, joins an already deep and talented running back group in Columbia. He was a standout last season, earning All-Mountain West honors after rushing for 1,109 yards and emerging as one of the conference’s top offensive weapons.
Although Faison announced his transfer late last year, the eligibility process dragged on, nearly preventing him from being ready for the season opener. At one point, his lawyer had to file an emergency waiver just so he could take part in preseason practices.
Now officially cleared, Faison will be in the mix for the starting role when South Carolina opens the season against Virginia Tech on August 31.
