South Carolina’s Rocket Sanders exits Akron game with a suspected injury.
Another prominent player from the South Carolina offense was injured during the first quarter of Saturday’s matchup against Akron. Starting running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders limped off the field during USC’s second possession, unable to put weight on his left leg.
Juju McDowell and Oscar Adaway stepped in to replace him, with Adaway scoring a short touchdown that put the Gamecocks ahead 7-0. Initially, Sanders was seen on the sidelines with ice on his left foot, but later returned to the locker room in the second quarter wearing a walking boot. Radio broadcaster Todd Ellis reported it as a “lower leg injury,” indicating that the tailback is likely not cleared to return.
Sanders is the latest offensive star for USC to suffer an injury in the past two weeks, joining quarterback LaNorris Sellers and starting receiver Jared Brown on the sidelines. In his first season at USC after transferring from Arkansas, Sanders entered the game with 285 yards and four touchdowns. He had only played six games last season due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for all of spring practice at USC.
