Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Taijuan Walker left Thursday night’s game against the New York Mets due to an injury suffered in the top of the fourth inning when Starling Marte hit a line drive off his left foot.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Taijuan Walker exited Thursday’s game against the New York Mets with a left big toe contusion after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Starling Marte in the top of the fourth inning. X-rays on Walker’s toe were negative, indicating no fracture.
After the game, Walker expressed optimism about his injury, stating, “It feels better now than when it first happened.” He tried to walk off the injury, but the toe became hot, numb, and painful. However, Walker felt much better after the X-rays showed no structural damage.
Despite the injury, Walker had allowed four hits and two runs over 3 1/3 innings before leaving the game. His ERA rose to 4.91 over four starts this season.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said the team will evaluate how Walker feels on Friday before determining if he can make his next scheduled start. Walker had previously begun the season on the injured list due to right shoulder soreness. In his absence, Spencer Turnbull pitched well, and he would likely return to the rotation if Walker needs to go back on the injured list.
