Earlier this year, Mickey Dean, the head coach of Auburn softball, announced his decision to step down at the end of the season after seven years at the helm. On Wednesday, the university revealed that Chris and Kate Malveux, a married couple, would take over as the new leaders of the softball program.

Chris and Kate Malveux, who served as assistants at Tennessee for the past three seasons, will bring their expertise to Auburn. Chris specialized in offense, while Kate focused on coaching catchers and base runners. During the 2023 season, the Lady Vols led the SEC with an average of 6.87 runs per game.

Auburn athletics director John Cohen expressed his enthusiasm for the pair, highlighting their strong teamwork and impressive track record at Tennessee. He stated, “Their combined efforts have been a driving force at Tennessee, and we are thrilled to welcome Chris, Kate, and their family to Auburn.”

4-star safety sets his commitment date

One of the top recruits sought after by the Auburn football program has announced the date for his commitment decision. Anquon Fegans, a 4-star safety from Thompson High School, will reveal his choice among his top four college options on July 27. The Tigers are vying for his commitment alongside Georgia, Clemson, and LSU.

Regarded as the #2 prospect from Alabama and the #4 safety nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, Fegans will conduct official visits to Washington, Georgia, Clemson, and Miami in June. Subsequently, he will participate in Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend on July 27.

Fegans shares a close relationship with Charles Kelly, and he highly values Kelly’s history of guiding players to successful NFL careers.

Reflecting on Kelly’s coaching accomplishments, Fegans remarked, “If you go back and look at his track record, he’s had a lot of guys – a lot of them. That’s a significant factor.”
