Significant uncertainty surrounding 5-star recruit Linkon Cure’s commitment to K-State, despite a late-night post on Instagram

Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Kansas State football supporters believed that they were about to witness Linkon Cure publicly commit to playing for the team. Both Cure and quarterback Avery Johnson went live on Instagram, sparking this anticipation. However, it turned out to be more of a display than an actual commitment announcement.

Despite wearing a Kansas State football uniform during the live stream, Cure didn’t reveal his college decision. Nonetheless, the videos showcased his close relationship with Johnson, which could influence his final choice of attending K-State. Johnson praised Cure, referring to him as the highest-rated recruit in the Wildcats’ history, and the team is eager to have him on board.

Cure, a five-star tight end and the nation’s second-ranked player in his position, is a highly sought-after prospect. The Wildcats are relying on Johnson to help secure his commitment. Johnson shared a photo on a platform called X, previously known as Twitter, depicting himself, Cure, and coach Chris Klieman together on a golf course, with the caption “what we thinking yall?” Clearly, their main focus is on recruiting Cure to join the Wildcats for the 2025 season.

Securing Cure’s commitment would be a significant accomplishment for Klieman and would further enhance the team’s already promising recruitment class.

Cure had an impressive performance last year, catching 42 passes for 946 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns during his junior year at Goodland High School. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 220 pounds, Cure possesses the abilities that would benefit any top-tier Division I program. He’s also receiving attention from Oregon, Texas A&M, and Kansas as part of their recruitment efforts.

If Cure decides to commit over the weekend, he would mark the 11th high school recruit to verbally commit to the Wildcats. The other recruits include Dominic Mitchell, a 6-foot-1 safety from Brophy Prep (Arizona), Dillon Duff, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback from Desmet (Missouri), Will Kemna, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive tackle from Helias Catholic (Missouri), Weston Polk, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from Coppell (Texas), Martel Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback from Derby (Kansas), Adonis Moise, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver from IMG Academy (Florida), Dalton Knapp, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end from All Saints Episcopal (Texas), Sawyer Schilke, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Kearney (Nebraska), JoJo Scott, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound recruit from Victory Christian Academy in Lakeland (Florida), and Maguire Richman, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from Blue Valley (Kansas).
