Gavin Mueller, a sophomore at Wheaton (Ill.) St. Francis, is wrapping up his basketball season and has decided to transition to football. Despite being a standout on the basketball court, he has now turned his attention to the gridiron.
Mueller’s impressive physical attributes, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 240 pounds, combined with his athleticism, have caught the attention of college coaches during his recent workouts. As a result, he has started receiving offers from various schools.
Marshall, Akron, Toledo, Kent State, and Minnesota have extended offers to Mueller, with the Gophers being his first opportunity from a Power Five conference. Mueller is particularly excited about the Minnesota offer, as he has had family and friends who have attended the university and enjoyed the atmosphere. Growing up in the Midwest, he has always admired the Big Ten conference and sees Minnesota as one of the best teams in the league.
Mueller plans to visit North Central on June 4th as part of his camp schedule to get his foot in the door with college coaches. He also intends to visit Minnesota early in the month and potentially a couple of individual schools, but he needs to coordinate with his parents to finalize his calendar.
Despite the sudden interest, Mueller is not taking anything for granted. He has met with several colleges in recent weeks, and the meetings have gone well. As he attends more camps, he expects to meet with additional schools. Mueller’s coach, Coach Bob McMillen, is available for colleges to reach out to and arrange workouts with the talented athlete.
In addition to his athletic abilities, Mueller is also an honor roll student. He self-reports a 4.5 forty-yard dash time and a 10-foot broad jump.
