San Diego Padres Receive Yet Another Strong Message Following Manny Machado and Dylan Cease Last Night
The San Diego Padres are halfway through a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and as expected, tensions are rising.
Following postgame remarks from manager Mike Shildt and star third baseman Manny Machado on Monday night, the Dodgers appeared to take offense—something reflected in their social media activity during Tuesday’s matchup.
The spark came when Padres pitcher Dylan Cease hit Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages with a pitch on Monday. Pages seemed to think it was intentional, glaring at Cease from the batter’s box and reportedly exchanging words with the pitcher. While both bullpens braced for confrontation, the moment passed without escalation, and Pages took his base.
After the game, Machado weighed in, suggesting that if the Padres were aiming to send a message, there were more high-profile targets on L.A.’s star-studded roster.
“They’ve got way more superstars over there if we wanted to hit someone,” Machado said. “They’ve got some big dogs we could go after.”
Manny Machado said the Dodgers have other big dogs they could hit in response to the Andy Pages, Dylan Cease exchange yesterday.

In response, after Pages homered during Tuesday’s game, the Dodgers’ official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a clip of the blast with the caption, “Big dog, Andy Pages”—a clear nod to Machado’s comment the night before.
As expected from the Dodgers, one sarcastic response wasn’t enough.
Padres manager Mike Shildt was caught on camera in the dugout seemingly mouthing a question along the lines of who Andy Pages thought he was to assume Dylan Cease hit him on purpose Monday night.
Following Pages’ second home run, the Dodgers’ X account posted another video, this time captioned, “and that’s who Andy Pages is,” seemingly taking a jab at Shildt’s earlier comment.

Even after all the drama, the Dodgers’ social media team kept the jabs coming. When they posted a graphic highlighting Pages’ 4-for-4 performance, they included a not-so-subtle nod to Shildt’s remark in the top right corner.“And that’s who Andy Pages is.”
Credit where it’s due—going 4-for-4 with multiple home runs is undeniably impressive. However, the steady stream of jabs at San Diego started to feel a bit over the top, especially with more posts surfacing just over an hour after the game wrapped.
The Padres will have two more chances in Los Angeles to bounce back and even the series before it comes to a close.
