The Dallas Cowboys recently faced more disappointing news about their franchise quarterback, Dak Prescott. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 2023 NFL MVP runner-up is set to undergo season-ending surgery for a partially torn hamstring.
Prescott injured his hamstring awkwardly while throwing in the team’s 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. Schefter mentioned that Prescott and the team are waiting for the input of another specialist, but team medical staff anticipate that he will need the surgery.
If this unfortunate plan goes ahead, Prescott could be sidelined for at least four months. Team owner Jerry Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan that Prescott “doesn’t want surgery,” but it’s clear the injury is significant. Jones added, “He wants to be on the field and go for it,” indicating that they are considering all options.
It seems a decision has been mostly finalized within about 24 hours since Jones’s comments. With the Cowboys currently at 3-5, they will rely on backup quarterback Cooper Rush in their upcoming divisional game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
During Prescott’s time with the Cowboys, the team has a 9-8 record without him, but surprisingly, they have gone 5-1 with Rush in charge. However, they have only managed to win one out of three games against Philadelphia without Prescott.
