SAD: Auburn 5-star RB critical after shooting; brother killed

After his brother, Tommie Battie IV, was killed in a shooting early on Saturday morning in Florida, Brian Battie, an Auburn kick returner and running back, is still in serious condition.

Head coach of the Tigers Hugh Freeze announced on Monday that Brian Battie is still on a ventilator after suffering a “setback” on Sunday night. There was a gunshot in Sarasota. When police arrived at a plaza, they reported finding many victims of gunshot wounds. At the scene, Tommie Battie IV was declared deceased.

Hospitals in the vicinity received four additional patients. On 28 kickoff returns in 2023, Brian Battie averaged 23.0 yards during his rookie campaign at Auburn. In addition, he scored a touchdown and ranked fourth on the team in rushing yards (227). He spent his first three years of college at South Florida, where in 2022 he ran for 1,185 yards.
