Rutgers’ top prospects Dylan Harper announces major decision

Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper, regarded as one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class, announced on ESPN’s “NBA Today” Monday that he will be entering the 2025 NBA Draft (X video link).

This announcement was anticipated, as Harper has consistently been viewed as a strong candidate to be among the first picks in June. He is currently ranked second overall on ESPN’s board, following Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, according to draft expert Jonathan Givony.

Standing at 6’6″, Harper is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. In his first and only college season, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 steals over 32.6 minutes per game across 29 games. He had shooting percentages of .484 from the field, .333 from three-point range, and .750 from the free-throw line, earning him a spot on the All-Big Ten third team.

Harper set the freshman scoring record at Rutgers and ranked fifth in points per game in the Big Ten. Givony notes that the 19-year-old has drawn comparisons to a young James Harden within NBA circles.

“NBA teams see me as an all-around player,” Harper remarked. “I can do whatever it takes to win, whether that’s scoring, defending, or facilitating. I’ll do whatever the coach needs.
