Royal Report: Kings Key-player Likely To Test Free Agency

Hintz, Hakanpää, Arvidsson

According to Dallas Stars radio personality Owen Newkirk, forward Roope Hintz will be evaluated at game time for Game 3 tomorrow night. Hintz is flying to Edmonton with the club. Hintz was almost ready to participate in Game 2 and Stars head coach Pete Deboer expressed optimism to reporters today that he will play in the next two games.

With just two goals and four assists in 11 games, Hintz has had a quiet playoff thus far by his standards after suffering an upper-body injury against the Colorado Avalanche in the second round back on May 13th.

The Tampere, Finland native had a great regular season, scoring 30 goals and dishing out 35 assists in 80 games. However, he has played much worse in the playoffs, especially with regard to possession, as his CF% has decreased by more than 10%.

  • As per Newkirk, Stars defenseman Jani Hakanpää is not traveling with Dallas and will not play in Games 3 or 4. Hakanpää is probably not close to returning to game action, as DeBoer indicated to media when he said he won’t join the team until he’s near to returning. The 32-year-old has not practiced with the squad or played since March 16. He has missed 28 straight games at this point and has no estimated comeback date.
  • Los Angeles Kings forward Viktor Arvidsson is reportedly going to test the free agent market on July 1st, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic. This season, Skelleftea, Sweden native fought with ailments and played in just 18 games. Despite playing little minutes, the 31-year-old had respectable stats—six goals and nine assists—in a small sample size. Since coming to the Kings by trade in July 2021, Arvidsson has produced a lot of points; in 161 games, he has scored 52 goals and assisted 71 times.
