BREAKING: Blue Jackets changes stance, sign talented 26-year-old goalie to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 season

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goalie Zach Sawchenko to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 season. Sawchenko, 26, has previously played for the San Jose Sharks and has seen action in both the NHL and AHL.

In the NHL, he achieved a 1-2-0 record with a 3.35 GAA and .901 SV%, with notable performances in his debut and first victory. He was originally undrafted and signed with San Jose in 2021.

In the AHL, he has played 79 games with a 3.11 GAA, .898 SV%, and two shutouts. His recent stats with Abbotsford Canucks include a 4-1-0 regular season record and a 2-4 playoff record. In a 2022-23 season with Chicago, he played 41 games, achieving a 17-18-3 record with 1,014 saves.

Sawchenko has also seen success in the ECHL, with a 13-4-3 record, a 2.42 GAA, and .928 SV% while playing for the Allen Americans. Earlier in his career, he played junior hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL and was named to the WHL (East) First All-Star Team in his final two seasons. He then played for the University of Alberta, where he won a University Cup championship in 2017-18 and boasted a league-best GAA in 2018-19.
