Dubose was not listed on a roster distributed to the media during Tuesday’s practice, the first of the spring for the Longhorns, but a Texas spokesperson was not immediately sure whether it was a mistake when contacted by Burnt Orange Nation on Tuesday.
The 6’1, 185-pounder was offered by former wide receivers coach Brennan Marion in January 2022 prior to suffering back-to-back torn ACLs that kept Dubose from playing as a junior. During the summer of 2023, Dubose committed to the Longhorns after taking an official visit, pledging to Texas over 19 other offers, including Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, among others. The Smithson Valley product also took an official visit to UTSA.
When Dubose signed with the Horns in December 2023, he was a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 328 player nationally and the No. 54 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
As a true freshman, Dubose spent the fall rehabilitating from his second ACL injury.
“The biggest thing for him is just buying into the culture, being a great teammate, and picking up things from an IQ standpoint, but again, we haven’t really had any install, because all my install has been during the season. So I will have to watch how he transitions now that we have this opportunity,” Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson told Burnt Orange Nation at the Peach Bowl Media Day in December.
But now Jackson won’t have that opportunity to evaluate Dubose with his departure, which leaves Texas with nine scholarship wide receivers on the roster and at 81 total scholarships for the fall.
