Report: Yankees Out of Contention for One of the Top Remaining Free Agents

The New York Yankees have made significant moves to strengthen their roster this offseason following Juan Soto’s departure, but it seems they may be reaching their limits. Jack Curry of YES Network reported on Monday that the Yankees have learned Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki will not be joining them. Sasaki is nearing a decision ahead of the Jan. 15 international signing period and is narrowing down his options.

A 23-year-old multi-time All-Star with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), Sasaki is drawing significant interest from several top MLB clubs. Earlier reports indicated he was meeting with another prominent team within the Yankees’ division.

Following their AL pennant win last season, the Yankees have made big moves to add All-Star talent, including pitchers like Max Fried and Devin Williams, along with hitters like Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger. If Sasaki has ruled them out, it could impact the Yankees’ rotation plans for next season, including involving a notable trade candidate.
