Remarkable: Cole Caufield finishes his day’s match at the World Championship with four points.

Cole Caufield finished the World Hockey Championships with two goals and two assists in six games prior to the Americans’ game of the day. We were certain that he could step up his game.

And that’s just what he did in the Latvian arena today.

The Canadian forward finished with two goals and two assists for a total of four points in a 6-3 victory. In his eighth game, he so quadrupled his offensive output.
He first assisted on both of the Americans’ opening two goals, then added a third to make it 3-0. The Canadian player found the back of the net with a well-executed shot.

Three of the following four bits were scored by the Latvians, giving the Americans a 4-3 lead. Cole Caufield’s team had very little leeway.

He scored the penultimate goal of the game to make it 5-3.

It’s encouraging to see that Caufield proved he could handle his wanderings considering that this was the final game of the qualifying round. Of course, it was limited to Latvia, but still.

Is he able to keep producing in the medal round?
