Red Sox Brilliant star Avoids Serious Injury Despite Ominous Departure

The Boston Red Sox may have narrowly avoided a serious injury scare with veteran pitcher James Paxton. During Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros, Paxton left the mound in the first inning, prompting concern among fans at Fenway Park. Initially, it appeared he had sustained a significant lower leg injury, leading many to fear the worst—possibly an Achilles or ACL injury that could sideline him for the remainder of the season.

In the anxious moments following his departure, fans were left to ponder the potential ramifications of the injury until the team released an update. Fortunately for Sox supporters, reports indicated that Paxton only suffered a right calf strain, as confirmed by Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic and other sources. Further imaging over the next 48 hours will determine the full extent of the injury.

Paxton, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers before the trade deadline, has been performing well in his second stint with the Red Sox. Prior to Sunday’s game, he had a record of 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA and nine strikeouts in his first two starts.

While a calf strain could keep him out for a few games in August, concerns about his season being over can be alleviated if the MRI results are favorable in the coming days.
