RED HOT: Conflicting matters as Judge denies lowering bond for man accused in Chiefs rally mass shooting, causing outburst.

In a recent court hearing, a Jackson County judge declined a request to reduce the bond for one of the individuals implicated in the Chiefs Super Bowl rally shooting. The judge, R. Travis Willingham, determined that the existing bond conditions for 23-year-old Lyndell Mays of Raytown were appropriate based on “clear and convincing evidence” that they were necessary to ensure Mays’ court appearance and public safety.

Mays faces charges of second-degree felony murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action in connection with the tragic incident outside Union Station on February 14, where Lisa Lopez-Galvan lost her life. Mays is currently held in Jackson County jail on a $1 million cash-only bond.During the hearing, a relative of Mays caused a disturbance, prompting Willingham to have her briefly detained before releasing her with a warning.

In a separate hearing, Judge J. Dale Youngs scheduled a jury trial for another individual, 20-year-old Terry J. Young of Kansas City, who also faces murder charges in the same shooting. Young is held on a $1 million cash-only bond. The third individual involved, 18-year-old Dominic Miller of Kansas City, is currently hospitalized. Both Miller and Young are charged with similar offenses as Mays.

The prosecution alleges that Mays initiated the gunfire, resulting in Lopez-Galvan’s death, while Miller and Young were also involved in the shooting.

Missouri law allows for charges against individuals who did not directly fire a weapon but were present during a felony that led to a fatality.Additionally, several teenagers have been charged in connection with the shooting, with ongoing legal proceedings to determine if they will be tried as adults. The legal process continues to unfold as authorities seek justice in this tragic event.
