RECRUITING CLASS: “HUGE BOOST” as Otis Hughley Jr. Announces Men’s Basketball Signees, Top-Stars

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Otis Hughley Jr., the head men’s basketball coach at Alabama A&M University, announced the signing of five players for the next season on Tuesday.

The acquisition of Jaylen Colon, Darius Ford, Quincy McGriff, David Verstraeten, and Warren Yeh was warmly received by the Bulldogs.

Colon, a two-time State Championship student-athlete and member of the Puerto Rico National Team, played at Kell High School, where he finished with the most victories and 1,000 points in program history. As a junior, you made the most 3-pointers in school history and broke the record for the most triples in a single game with twelve.

Ford is a transfer from TCU, where he participated in eight games for the Horn Frogs in the previous campaign. In just four minutes, he scored a season-high five points against Houston Christian.

McGriff joins the Bulldogs after playing for Duquesne, where in 2022–2023 he averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 rebounds. At George Washington, he scored a career-high 17 points, five of which came from 3-point range, and at DePaul, he pulled down a season-high eight rebounds.

As the top-ranked Under-20 player for the Belgian Olympic National Team, Verstraeten joins AAMU. He participated in seven games at the 202 FIBU U18 European Championship Division B, averaging 7.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

The top-seeded Under-19 Taiwan Olympic National Team player, Warren Yeh, assisted Bridgton Academy in surpassing the 20-win mark and securing a spot in the National Prep Championship. The Wolverines finished as the No. 5 seed in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council- AAA (NEPSAC) Playoffs.

Yeh finished the National Prep Showcase with 21 points after making a string of clutch baskets to push Fork Union into overtime. Yeh scored 17.5 points a game on average in two Showcase games.
