Rebels Receive key Recruiting Update
The Ole Miss Rebels are undergoing a major change this season as head coach Lane Kiffin and the team transition from having Jaxson Dart to Austin Simmons under center. Simmons alone will not be enough to keep the team competitive for several years, so ESPN’s Eli Lederman wrote that the team’s top high school recruiting target should be quarterback Landon Duckworth.
“Kiffin needs all the quarterback talent he can get if he’s going to keep the Rebels among the SEC’s upper crust beyond 2025,” wrote Lederman. “Duckworth, ESPN’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, is an ideal fit for a Kiffin-style offense. Ole Miss hosted Duckworth earlier this year, and the Rebels enter the spring as presumed front-runners to ultimately land the former South Carolina pledge from Jackson, Alabama.”
Dart was a record-setting quarterback for the Rebels, which provided Simmons with very few opportunities to showcase what he could do on the football field. While he did look impressive in limited action, especially against Georgia, the jury is still out on whether or not he can lead this team to the College Football Playoff.
Duckworth is a highly coveted recruit who has offers from 32 different FBS programs, as well as 10 other SEC schools. He is a consensus four-star prospect in the class of 2026 and could provide some star power for the Rebels when Simmons has used up his eligibility. If Kiffin and his staff could land Duckworth, it could change the outlook of the program for years to come.
