Rangers Star Send Clear Message To Team And Fans Heading Into The Mid-September Stretch

The Texas Rangers have had a fairly competitive 2025 campaign, holding a 74–70 record and staying in the mix for an American League Wild Card berth. With just a few weeks remaining in the regular season, they trail the Seattle Mariners by 1.5 games for a playoff spot, with the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees also within striking distance.
Securing that final postseason slot won’t be easy, but the Rangers have shown signs of momentum lately, winning 7 of their last 10 games. A strong finish will be essential, and reliever Shawn Armstrong recently spoke about the team’s mindset as they head into this critical mid-September stretch.

In a recent interview with Foul Territory, Rangers reliever Shawn Armstrong shared several insights, but his main message was clear: the team is fully committed to making a postseason push, and the organization holds a firm expectation to compete at a high level every year.
Armstrong emphasized that the team doesn’t rely on flashy energy or over-the-top celebrations, but rather on a culture of professionalism and high standards set by the front office:
“We’re not a hoorah team… obviously we have guys that get fired up—like García’s home runs in big moments—but overall, it’s about the standard that’s been established. The front office expects us to win. With the kind of talent we have, especially coming off the 2023 World Series title, and last season falling short of expectations, the bar is set high.”
He also mentioned veteran pitchers Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi as examples of that mindset, noting that even when things don’t go their way, they’re in the bullpen the next day, breaking down mechanics, reviewing scouting reports, and doing everything they can to improve and help the team win.
Armstrong went on to credit Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young (“C.Y.”) for reinforcing that winning mentality when he joined the team:
“…From my first conversation with C.Y., it was clear—we’re here to win a World Series. That’s the goal. It’s not about if we make the playoffs, it’s about expecting to win, plain and simple.”
While that mentality is ideal for any franchise, it’s encouraging to see that the Rangers are united in that vision, even as they sit just outside the playoff picture.
With a clear focus and belief in the talent on the roster, the team remains confident that by showing up and executing each day, they can make another deep run toward a World Series title.
