The Los Angeles Rams have given permission for a veteran cornerback to seek a trade, potentially opening the door to deals with AFC contenders.
The Rams recently secured a crucial win over the Minnesota Vikings, preserving their season momentum. However, despite this success, the cornerback has expressed a desire to be traded. Drafted in the first round in 2017, he quickly became one of the league’s top cornerbacks, finishing second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting and earning two Pro Bowl selections as well as First-Team All-Pro honors during his time with Buffalo.
After signing a long-term contract with the Bills, he was seen as a key defensive piece for the future. But injuries limited his game appearances in 2022 and 2023, leading Buffalo to release him as a high-cost veteran. His one-year, “prove-it” contract with the Rams hasn’t panned out as expected, possibly due to the lingering effects of these injuries. However, teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens might be interested in a low-risk trade.
The Chiefs are a prime candidate as they near the trade deadline with needs at cornerback. Although Trent McDuffie has been stellar, injuries to key players, including Jaylen Watson, have left the Chiefs thin in the secondary. Chiefs GM Brett Veach has a reputation for cost-effective trades, and the Rams cornerback could be acquired for a conditional seventh-round pick, which wouldn’t significantly impact Kansas City if the trade didn’t work out.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens could also benefit from a trade to bolster their injured secondary. The Ravens’ Week 8 loss to the Browns exposed vulnerabilities in their defense, despite their strong offensive showing. With Marlon Humphrey and rookie Nate Wiggins struggling with injuries, Baltimore’s cornerback depth is a concern. Even if Humphrey and Wiggins return, acquiring a seasoned cornerback could provide needed stability, allowing Wiggins time to develop without the pressure of high-stakes games.
The player who might make a move to one of these teams is Tre’Davious White, a cornerback whose career has been marked by standout performances, recent injuries, and now the opportunity for a fresh start.
