Raiders pull off heist for former All-Pro pass rusher in latest trade proposal

At the start of the season, the Raiders appeared to have plenty of pass rushers. Maxx Crosby and Malcom Koonce were the main stars, with backup players like Tyree Wilson and Charles Snowden expected to contribute to a strong rotation.

However, after Koonce was injured and Wilson struggled—ultimately getting hurt while stepping in for Koonce—the Raiders found themselves lacking depth on the edge. While this situation is never ideal, it’s somewhat fortunate that a two-time Pro Bowl, former All-Pro pass rusher is available at a low cost.

Haason Reddick has made it clear that he doesn’t want to play for the Jets. His holdout speaks volumes, and his candidness only reinforces his stance. Reddick is seeking a new contract, and the Jets have struggled to address the situation. Luckily, Bleacher Report has intervened with a comprehensive article titled “6 New Hypothetical NFL Trade Packages for Haason Reddick amid Jets Contract Dispute,” which includes a trade proposal to the Raiders that is hard to overlook.

Raiders could trade Michael Mayer for Haason Reddick, apparently.

“To acquire Reddick, the Raiders could offer their 2023 second-round pick, Michael Mayer. The former Notre Dame tight end has shown some potential in the NFL but is likely behind rookie Brock Bowers on the depth chart in Las Vegas. Tight end is one of the few positions where the Jets could clearly use a significant upgrade. While Mayer has more upside than proven production, he could immediately challenge Tyler Conklin for the top receiving role at that position with Aaron Rodgers.”

I *love* this idea. Thanks, Bleacher Report! Trading a proven star pass rusher for TE3 is an incredible deal. Acquiring a player with 50 sacks over the past four seasons in exchange for a tight end who won’t get significant playing time on the Raiders is a steal. The Raiders’ defense already looks strong, and adding Reddick on the edge alongside Crosby would elevate them to one of the top units in the league.
