Major Roster Moves: UConn women’s basketball team has secured commitments from two Top-ranked recruits

The UConn women’s basketball team has secured verbal commitments from two recruits in the Class of 2025.

As reported by On3, the Huskies are also among the finalists for two more recruits from that class. Canadian wing Agot Makeer has included UConn in her top six potential schools, while IMG forward Lara Somfai has UConn in her top three.

Makeer, currently ranked as the No. 6 recruit in the Class of 2025, has not yet visited Storrs. Earlier this year, she had UConn in her top 12. Along with the Huskies, her current list includes Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Michigan State, and South Carolina.

The 6-foot-1 wing from Ontario mentioned to On3 that she is prioritizing schools where she has established real connections with the staff and her family, as well as programs where she can make a significant impact immediately. She has already visited Michigan State and North Carolina and plans to check out all six schools on her list before making her decision.

“It’s been my dream school ever since I was a kid,” Makeer told On3 about her thoughts toward UConn. “Them reaching out and wanting me to be part of their team has been kind of shocking, but at the same time, not really. They just make pros and that’s what attracts me to UConn.”

Somfai visited Storrs in the spring to watch the Huskies play in the initial rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Gampel Pavilion. The Australian forward currently attends IMG Academy in Florida, where she plays alongside fellow Class of 2025 commit Kelis Fisher. Both are members of the IMG girls’ basketball team; Somfai is ranked No. 31, while Fisher is ranked No. 25.

Originally, Somfai had a top five list that included Duke, UConn, Stanford, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, but she has since narrowed it down to just UConn, Duke, and Stanford.

In addition to Fisher, UConn’s other current Class of 2025 commit is Gandy Malou-Mamel, ranked No. 68, who hails from Ireland and is now attending high school in New Jersey.
