Before becoming a prominent college football analyst for ESPN and a well-known figure in the sport, Kirk Herbstreit played quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1989 to 1992. Now, one of his sons is set to join Ohio State’s biggest rival.
Chase Herbstreit, a quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, announced his commitment to Michigan on Sunday in an interview with On3 Sports.
Chase recently completed his senior year at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he achieved impressive stats, throwing for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 649 yards and eight touchdowns.
At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, he currently doesn’t have a star rating from 247Sports. He becomes the second quarterback in the 2025 class for Michigan’s coach Sherrone Moore, following five-star recruit Bryce Underwood, who committed to Michigan in November and signed with the program last week.
In other family news, two of Kirk Herbstreit’s older sons, Tye and Jake, were walk-ons at Clemson, with Jake later transferring to Ohio State to explore other interests. Additionally, another son, Zak, is a walk-on tight end for Ohio State, entering his fourth year with the team, although he faced health challenges earlier in his college career.
