BREAKING: Western Bulldogs star reportedly nominates preferred landing

Wantaway Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae has reportedly identified St Kilda as his desired destination after requesting a trade from the club.

Last week, it was revealed that Macrae expressed his intention to leave the Bulldogs after spending 12 years and playing 249 games with the team. Although he is under contract until the end of the 2027 season, this year has seen him struggle for playing time compared to previous seasons. The 30-year-old, a three-time All-Australian and the recipient of the 2021 Gary Ayres Award, played just 19 games this season, marking his lowest total since his debut year, excluding the shortened 2020 season.

During the current season, Macrae was used as a tactical substitute on four occasions and also played three matches for Footscray in the VFL. Now looking to move on from the club, he has reportedly communicated his wish to join St Kilda during the upcoming trade period.

Macrae’s contract situation necessitates that St Kilda and the Bulldogs reach an agreement for the midfielder to move to Moorabbin, as the Saints currently possess Picks 7, 24, and 43 for the upcoming National Draft in November.

Additionally, St Kilda is expected to gain further picks as compensation for losing free agent Josh Battle to Hawthorn, and they also have access to their draft picks for 2025.

Macrae is the second player from the Bulldogs to request a trade following the conclusion of the 2024 season, with Bailey Smith also expressing a desire to join another team.

The 2024 AFL Trade Period is set to commence on Monday, October 7, and will continue until Wednesday, October 16.
