Boilermakers head football coach Ryan Walters shredded for abysmal showing against Ohio State, called to be fired after Week 11 goose egg.

The Purdue football program may have just hit rock bottom. Saturday’s 45-0 loss to Ohio State dropped the Boilermakers to 1-8 (0-6 Big Ten), to the dismay of coach Ryan Walters.

Walters’ start in West Lafayette couldn’t have gone worse. Whether it’s quarterback issues, poor execution, incompetent coaching, and the like, nothing has gone right for the Boilermakers. And fans are calling for his job as the struggles continue.

Early in the game, Purdue tried to swing momentum its way. On a fourth-and-goal opportunity while trailing 7-0, the Boilermakers had a chance to demonstrate their sense of urgency in an attempt even to have a pulse at pulling off an upset.

But it wasn’t meant to be.

Purdue kicker Spencer Porath missed a chip-shot field goal, and while it likely would not have mattered in the long run, it would have at least shown that the team could score against one of the nation’s best.

Indianapolis sports fan Zach Voght ripped into the decision in a quote tweet on ‘X,’ which is gaining variability.

“Ryan Walters deserves this FG being missed by electing not to go for it from the 3-yard line when you are 1-7,” Voght wrote. “Truly embarrassing.

Walters briefly spoke to the media after the game, failing to give a logical reason why the decision not to try and score six points.

“We wanted to get points on the board and come away with some momentum,” Walters said (h/t Eleven Warriors). “We thought it would be an easy chip shot to guarantee some points. Obviously, in hindsight, you would have loved to get points there.”

Purdue has little left to salvage this season, as it’ll have to get ready for Penn State next weekend.
