Mayer has been tied to Purdue recently and the speculation that was growing led to his commitment not being a major surprise. The international player was ranked as the top transfer via On3 rankings and he has already been playing professionally overseas. While the 18 year old was a reserve for Maccabi Tel Aviv, he averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game in the the FIBA U18 EuroBasket Championships.
Mayer will enroll at Purdue as a freshman and is also a potential NBA prospect. It’s expected that Mayer will be able to develop alongside point guard Braden Smith and take over for Smith at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
Purdue continued to add to their roster with former North Florida transfer Liam Murphy announcing his commitment to Purdue.

Murphy is a 6’7” senior that spent two seasons at Columbia before playing last year at North Florida. While he mainly came off the bench, Murphy averaged 13 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in just under 24 minutes an outing. He also shot 42.3% from three on 7.7 attempts per game. The addition of Murphy will give Purdue some outside shooting from the wing and there’s a good chance Murphy could essentially play a bench role similar to departing forward Camden Heide.
