Police are reportedly investigating an incident that involved the coach of the BYU cheerleading team on Saturday night. The incident occurred after a controversial call from last night’s game between BYU and Utah. Following the game, BYU cheerleading coach Jocelyn Allan claimed she was struck in the head by a water bottle and knocked unconscious.
“At the conclusion of tonight’s BYU/Utah game, a Utah fan in the table seats in the south endzone threw a water bottle and hit me directly in the head,” she said in a statement on social media.
“I lost consciousness, but thankfully was lowered to the ground by one of my cheerleaders.”
Police are going over the video footage to identify the seats it came from (we have a pretty good idea). She ended her statement by asking fans if they saw anything to deliver that information to police.
Her post was shared by Deseret reporter Stevi Ginolfi, who added an update saying police are “pretty sure” they found the person responsible. The ending of the ‘Holy War’ was chaotic and led to scathing comments from Utah athletic director Mark Harlan. “This game was absolutely stolen from us,” Harlan said after the game.
“We were excited about being in the Big 12, but tonight, I am not. We won this game, and someone else stole it from us. I’m very disappointed. I will talk to the commissioner, but this was not fair to our team, and I’m disgusted by the professionalism of the officiating crew tonight.” We’ll have the latest on the developing situation involving the BYU cheerleading coach as it emerges.
