Phoenix Fans Have Exciting Week Ahead

Phoenix fans can catch seven home events this week, featuring the Elon Phoenix Classic (volleyball) and the Elon Opener (men’s and women’s cross country).

Weekly Overview of Elon Athletics

Men’s Soccer

• Record: 3-0 this season.
• A hat trick and seven points from graduate student Victor Stromsten in a 5-0 win over Radford.
• CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2.
• Senior goalkeeper Tomasz Wroblewski recognized as CAA Defensive Player of the Week after two clean sheets.
• Upcoming games:
  • Grand Canyon on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Drexel on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

Volleyball

• The team faced losses at the Wildcat Classic but had standout performances.
• Caroline Doyle made the All-Tournament team with 53 digs over three matches.
• Annabelle Schall achieved her first double-double (10 digs, 13 assists).
• Kayla Palmer also had a double-double (10 digs, 15 assists) against Marshall.
• Next match: Sept. 3 vs. Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. and hosting the Elon Phoenix Classic on Sept. 6-7.

Cross Country

• Open the 2024 season on Sept. 6 at the Elon Opener at 8:15 p.m.
• This event is the first of three hosted this season.
• The women’s team aims for a fifth consecutive CAA championship under new coach Mark Rinker.

Football

• After a strong performance against Duke, the team plays North Carolina Central on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
• Elon held Duke to 59 rushing yards, the fewest since 2020.
• Caleb Curtain had an interception and three pass break-ups.

Men’s Golf

• The fall season starts with the Myrtle Beach Golfs Trip Intercollegiate on Sept. 8.
• Garrett Risner won the Carolinas Amateur for the second consecutive year.
• Juan Callejo Ropero secured wins at two summer events.

Women’s Soccer

• Defeated Wofford 4-2 on Sept. 2.
• Isa Murdock scored two goals, leading to a career-high five points.
• Next match: Facing UNC Greensboro on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m..
