Former Phillie infielder signs minor league deal with NL West team
Former Philadelphia Phillies player Brad Miller has found a new team. The 34-year-old infielder is set to join the San Diego Padres on a minor league contract, as reported by AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.
Miller played for the Texas Rangers in the past two seasons, appearing in 108 games. However, injuries including hip, neck, oblique, and hamstring issues caused him to miss a considerable amount of playing time during this period. Despite winning a World Series with the Rangers in 2023, he did not participate in any playoff games.
Some of Miller’s most notable performances were with the Phillies. He was traded to Philadelphia from the New York Yankees in 2019, where he impressively hit seven home runs in just eight starts towards the end of the season, boasting a .610 slugging percentage in 130 plate appearances.
During his 2021 season back with the Phillies, Miller showed productivity by achieving a .774 OPS along with 20 home runs in 377 plate appearances.
In San Diego, Miller will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Padres’ bench. Other former Phillies like Michael Lorenzen, Noah Syndergaard, Jean Segura, and Brad Hand, who were also part of the free-agent market, are still seeking contracts for the upcoming season
